Justice For the Air We Breathe Talk for A Breath of Fresh Air Festival at Wellcome Collection

I gathered with Love Ssega, Janine Francois, Claire Ratinon – the guests I had invited to deliver workshops for Wellcome Collection's summer 2022 youth programme 'A Breath of Fresh Air' – to have a collective discussion about curation's the key themes of climate, race and health. We also shared more about the workshop activities they each ran during the programme, and youth participants contiuned their conversations with us individually during our smaller group chats in the Library.

Climate Stencils: Feelings, Data and Change Workshop for Platfform Haf, Peak, Transport for Wales at Abergavenny Train Station in Abergavenny, Wales

I delivered a workshop that guided the young cohort to reshape their idea of what can constitute 'climate data' by creating a paper-based mood tracker customised with their main concerns to journal their evolving relationship with the changing climate. The session opened with conversations about how the youth group felt about climate change from their own experiences, engagements with the issues and their thoughts on the near future, before ideating and producing stencils for their own use.

A Breath of Fresh Air Youth Programme Curation and Workshop for Wellcome Collection

I curated an creative, open workshop series for young people that centred air pollution issues relating to climate, health and race justice, working with Dr Chloe Trainor at Wellcome Collection throughout August 2022. Your Climate Stories: Thinking About Research and Perspectives Workshop with Tate Collective Producers for Tate St Ives

For the youth group Tate Collective Producers, I delivered a story workshop that encouraged participants to relate climate issues globally and locally to their everyday experiences. Through story telling devices like character, plotline and tone construction, my activities asked them to engage critically with everyday climate related materials ie. news, music, art work, adverts, and write their own desired story tangents or revised endings as a way to consider their own agency.

Intersectional Climate Justice with the RawMinds Ambassadors for Wellcome Collection

Over a few months, I worked with the Wellcome Collection's youth group the RawMinds Ambassadors aged 14-19 to introduce the ideas that shape intersectional climate justice - how overlapping challenges such as social, disability and racial justice issues, are all interconnected and influenced by the changing climate. Through my weekly series of activities and exercises, we explored different areas of the youths' own concerns and experiences of the issues - all also in the frame of living through the first pandemic lockdowns. To culminate the programme, the youth group collectively created apublic panel talk for other young people to explore the globally uneven climate impacts of food, ‘sustainable’ fashion and futures.(April 23, 2020 → September 23, 2020)

Climate Fiction Comic Book with The Art Assassins at South London Gallery

Over the summer of 2019 I worked together with The Art Assassins on a weekly basis at South London Gallery. Together we developed a new climate fiction comic book that weaves together multiple speculative futures. We ideated through workshop activities like sharing media and knowledges about climate issues, narrative mindmapping, drawing, collaging and debates. As part of the research our group visited an underground farm in south London. The farm, which produces salad sprouts, is both a real experiment in alternative, greener food production and a space that got the group thinking about visualising the future, with its striking purple lighting in the long tunnels.It inspired both debate on the shortcomings of seemingly 'green' ideas and businesses focusing on consumption, and what kinds of locations and technologies could appear in our imaginative climate narratives.
